Mowing

While I was mowing my lawn, a man next door was mowing the church lawn. He was proud and haughty about it, for his riding mower was much bigger and more powerful than mine. He zoomed around their lawn showing me how fast he could cut and how tight a corner he could turn at speed.

He wished to lord his strong mower over me.

I didn't pay much attention to him, and I think that frustrated him. How he wanted to impress me! So he aimed for the very high grass at full speed, and when he hit it, there was an awful sound. He got about four feet in, then his mower stopped and started smoking. He had broken the drive axle, and his comrades had to help him lift the crippled mower onto their truck. I kept mowing in my own slow way, and every so often, the other man would give me dirty glances.

There's a lesson in this, I think. You can have the best mowing machine in the world, but if you do not have the mowing spirit, it will be useless.
