"For the discriminating paratheologist"
Chelada: be afraid, be very afraid…
So the other day I’m in my local Circle K buying beverages and smokes. Circle K in Phoenix in the summer typically has an assortment of beer in small coolers near the checkout, and this one is no exception. Typically 24oz cans of Bud, Bud Light, maybe some Steel Reserve High Gravity Lager or Mickey’s Bigmouth. But on this fateful day, there was a new cerveza en la ciudad: Chelada!

Bud Light and Clamato! How could I resist that magical combination of thin beer, tomato juice, and clam broth? More pictures after the jump…

The big opening:

The demons escape:

The head doesn’t last long:

Into the mouth of madness

The last thing you’ll remember…

So I puts one in da freezer and forgits about it… Well, I finds it right before it explodes and moves it to the fridge. It goes flat when it thaws, and voiala! It’s even better than when carbonated. You can’t taste the flat beer, it just tastes like Clamato with booze in it. They should make non-carbonated Cheladas.

I discovered the Chelada at Busch Gardens’s beer school. MMM It pairs nicely with the grilled cheese sandwich.

An awesome mix. Nothing better to cure a hangover than this. Here in Mexico there aren’t ready-mixed beers with this, but we have some 3-4 different variations of Clamato here. With clams, with shrimp, with mixed seafood, etc. In some northern parts of Mexico (e.g. Mazatlan, Cuiliacan and I believe also Los Cabos) they call this “Sangre de Cristo”. Pretty nifty, thinking about the name of this blog.
