Happy St Pat’s-Irish Coffee Recipe

begorah-bear.jpgIrish Coffee at The Command

Pull 4oz espresso (crema doesn’t count, get the dark stuff to 6oz line)
add 1 teaspoon sugar
add 2oz whisky
top with whipped cream

6oz of strong coffee will do. If you want to go all out, make your own whipped cream from heavy cream. The insta-whip from the can works if that’s what’s on hand. Jameson Irish Whiskey was the best deal at the store but Bushmill’s is a fine brand too.

You’re going for coffee with whiskey, some sugar, whipped cream on top. Experimentation always makes for the best recipe and the most fun.

ABC News: Halliburton’s Dubai Move Makes Democrats Suspicious

ABC News: Halliburton’s Dubai Move Makes Democrats Suspicious

Halliburton Co., currently the largest military contractor in Iraq with billions of dollars in Pentagon contracts, announced Sunday that it was planning to move its CEO and corporate headquarters from Houston to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

The move could eventually save the firm a fortune in U.S. taxes, but it is raising serious questions about its priorities and prompting at least one possible congressional hearing.

Jaw Dropping. It will save a fortune in US Taxes. What good li’l businessmen they are.

The New Daylight Energy Savings Time-Foolish

The new daylight savings time. This is ridiculous and I’m from a state that does not even adhere to it. But twice a year the times change and the tv schedule is different, my friends are up or going to bed at a new time, and it’s in general silly to think that this has any reasonable place in the 21st Century.

Some are calling it a mini-y2k because of all the computer patching and programming that is going to have to go into making sure the computer doesn’t ignite, planes don’t fall from the sky, the grids do not spark and sputter out.

And maybe it’s a small patch, maybe not, but there are millions of dollars being paid out to keep the websites running. You want your investment website to go down for even ten minutes?

You think this is a small thing? No, my friend, it is not. Much like Y2K, I will be stocking the liquor cabinet in case of inconvenience.

And why is this really being done? Energy Savings!

A study using actual science to measure energy use in Australia with and without Daylight Savings Time (DST) concluded that any energy saved in the evenings hours was being used in the now dark morning hours.

The California Energy Commission (CEC) has come up with almost exactly the same findings.
discovery.com Australia

The daylight savings bill was a hurriedly snuck in three-paragraph item in a 550-page energy bill in 2005. It used data from a Transportation report that was over 30 years old.

Berkeley researchers , Ryan Kellogg and Hendrik Wolff, who are working on their doctorates in economics, are saying the same thing the Australians are, the morning energy usage will eat up any savings in the evening. They’ve been told California Energy Commission is interested in their findings but have not yet started to work with them.

This seems like a lame attempt to show “Hey, we’re Green! We care about energy usage! Forget that beating-baby-harp-seal image of oil lusting, souless greedsters.” And when they run for re-election they can proudly call themselves environmentalist. Maybe nobody will notice they’re fist-deep in with some Halliburton offshoot.

Idiots.

March 11th, turn your clocks ahead one hour. We’ll be doing shots at the command for every minute we’ll be missing.

International Women’s Day 2007

International Women’s Day 2007

My friend, Olga, called to wish me a Happy Women’s International Day. I said a barely peppy “oh, thank you.”
Ah, this is not a big one here in the states but in Moscow, Russia, where Olga is from, this is a national day off! She said Russia satellite tv was airing very festive shows and men brought presents and did nice things for their women. It sounds like a cross between Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day, both of which are not heavily celebrated in old country.

I had no idea this day was anything more than a nod and a calendar entry.

So to all you international Womens, Happy Day to You!
